Dan Brown – Video Editing and Post-Production

I am an enthusiastic and creative young editor, with a Degree in Editing and Post-Production from Ravensbourne University.

This unique degree course had editing at its heart but also covered a broad spectrum of post-production skills – including the use of Premier Pro, After Effects, Avid and DaVinci Resolve. The course, at London’s specialist creative industries university, also enabled me to explore a wide range of creative approaches.

I can also bring experience of working in a team, taking on responsibility and delivering high quality service under pressure and to deadlines gained through concurrent employment.

Drunk Like You

This music video – which I created all aspects of, including the grade to determine the era – illustrates how storytelling has developed in music videos through the decades. The initial basic shots reflect the limited options available to start with. As we progress, greater use is made of motion shots and of lighting, and then tracking shots and a drone.

Come and Get It

This is a short film featuring a fight scene with a twist after a tense build-up. For this video I undertook all aspects of the cut, VFX, colour grading, the craft cut and sound design.

Art for All

Tasked by the owner of this wonderful small art company to bring the experience to life for potential clients, I planned, filmed and edited all aspects (apart from the colour grade) of this video, liaising closely with the client and supervising other editing staff.

Last Night in Soho

This is a new trailer for the psychological thriller ‘Last Night in Soho’. I drew upon a variety of sources for the sound and visuals to bring together the 1960s setting and the tension of the film’s storyline.

Bad Memories

In this self-produced, directed, filmed and edited music video I set out to create an atmospheric yet dark partner to the music.

Royal Automobile Club

With nearly 600 staff across its wide range of facilities, the Club asked me to create a series of videos to help them quickly and clearly explain four things to new staff: the Club’s history, organisation, values and approach to sustainability. I used motion graphics to create informative yet captivating training videos.

About

I am graduating with a degree in Editing and Post-Production from Ravensbourne University, London’s specialist creative industries university.

This unique degree course has editing, my passion, at its heart – but it has also developed my experience and skills by covering a broad range of topics across the spectrum of post-production. These have included visual effects, colour grading, audio post, screen graphics, shoot and edit and broadcast technology.

As well as providing an extensive understanding of the post workflow, the course has also enabled me to explore a range of creative approaches through numerous practical projects, including music videos, advertising and motion graphic information videos.

I have also, alongside my degree, been working in hospitality for the past three years. This has proved invaluable in developing my skills related to working in a team, taking on responsibility and delivering high quality service under pressure and to deadlines. At school I gained A Levels / BTECs in Creative Digital Media Production, English Language and Business Studies.
